About

Thanks to the Central Kitsap community, we will replace Central Kitsap Middle and Central Kitsap High. CKHS was built in 1942. CKMS was built in 1952. The replacement will add permanent classroom space to get students out of portables. State-of-the-art lab and career and technical areas will allow students to use materials and build skills for tomorrow’s careers. Clear sightlines and secure entryways will improve safety and security. The project will ease traffic jams around the campus.

The two schools will be side-by-side in the center of the existing campus. Each school will operate independently with separate entries, commons and classrooms. They will share some resources, such as a kitchen and career and technical labs.

The original portion of Central Kitsap Middle School was built in 1959. Most major systems, from plumbing to electrical, need to be replaced.

Building Condition
Weather conditions have worn, and in some cases cracked, the building's exterior. Major upgrades would be needed to reinforce the building in case of an earthquake. The roof leaks in several areas and window and door seals need to be replaced. Several floors, including the gym floor need to be replaced.

Traffic
Congestion is a problem at the school. During pickup and dropoff times, buses idle in the parking lot, preventing parents from parking. The new school would provide a new bus loop separate from the parking area.
