Back to School Update #2

Back to School Update #2
Posted on 08/28/2020

Welcome Back and welcome to the 2020-21 school year.  Thank you for your patience and understanding as we have worked to get things ready for the remote school year to start.  We know that the beginning of this school year is different than any other any of us has ever experienced, and that all of the “new and different” can cause additional worry on top of the typical start-of-school-jitters.  Know that we are excited to meet you, that we are here to help in whatever way we can, and that we are very pleased you are part of the Cub family.  We will continue to provide you updates throughout the year, look for a weekly email communication, along with updates on our CKMS Facebook page.

When and how will students receive their schedules?

Through PowerSchool students and parents will be able to access students’ schedules on Tuesday morning Sept 1st. Students will also be able to view their schedules in PowerSchool through their ClassLink site.  6th grade students, and students new to CKSD in 7th and 8th grade, will pick-up their schedules at the drive-thru event on Sept 1st.

When do we pick-up textbooks and other material we need to start our coursework?

Materials pick-up opportunities for students will be scheduled at 8:30 – 10:30 am and 1:00 – 3:00 pm on each of the following dates:

Tuesday, Sept. 1 – 6th grade

Tuesday, Sept. 8 – 7th grade

Thursday, Sept. 10 – 8th grade

The pick-up activity will be a drive-through process in the front of the school where students and parents will remain in their vehicles and will be serviced by CKMS staff at various stations along the drive-through path in front of the school. Students will be able to pick up their 20/21 “Cubs” Planner” as well as other consumable items such as workbooks. Textbooks and other materials needed for specific courses will also be checked out to students.  Stay tuned for more information about make-up pick-up events following these dates, including an evening time slot.

What are the expectations for the 1st Day of School?

  • Students should make sure their Chromebook is working!!
  • Students will join the Google Meet at 12:30-1:15 for Advisory
  • Advisory classes are the same teacher as your 1st period Teacher.
  • Google classroom codes for all classes will be sent out on Tuesday morning via School Messenger and posted on our website.

What will the school day schedule look like in a remote environment?

A day of remote learning will include about 90 minutes of time in Google Meets, as well as independent assignments and activities. Teachers will be available daily for individual support. The schedule (below) will be the same for all middle and high schools. Students will attend their 1st, 3rd and 5th period classes on Mondays and Thursdays. They will attend their 2nd, 4th and 6th period classes on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Please use this Family Reopening Guide link for much more information and a larger view of the schedule table.

How and when will we know what is expected each week?

Starting September 4th: each Friday, all teachers will post their learning plans (including schedule, instructions, assignments, announcements, and resources) for the following week to their Google Classroom sites. Students must be logged in with their CKSD credentials to access the Google Classrooms. Teachers will also post a weekly learning plan on a CKMS Google Site that is accessible to parents and students. Our goal is to give families a consistent time to find plans and assignments that will give you the opportunity to stay informed and help your students with their learning schedules and routines.

Will we have PE and electives in a remote environment?

We intend to offer as many of our traditional performance based classes (PE, Music, Art, etc.) as possible. Along with all other courses, teachers of traditional performance based classes will also post lessons, activities, and other resources to their Google Classrooms each Friday.
