Weekly Update from CKMS

Monday, May 4, 2020

Hello Central Kitsap Middle School Families,

As we continue on in this new era of distance learning, our goal is to keep you informed and connected.  While we may not be physically together, our staff is working hard behind the scenes, and we are still here for you!  Please review the information below, and let us know if you have questions or if we can help you with anything.

Withdrawing Students

If your child will be withdrawing from CKMS before September 2020, we would like to know!  As your move date approaches, we will reach out to contact you regarding the return of your child’s Chromebook, books or other items.  Click here to let us know about your child's upcoming move or withdrawal.

Update on At-Home Learning

We hope that all families have been able to successfully engage with their teachers. Your child should be receiving new content in Google Classroom each week.  If your child is having difficulty accessing digital material, please reach out to your child’s teacher.

As a reminder, your child should only be working for 20-30 minutes per class, each day. If your child needs to work longer than 20-30 minutes for each class, please let the instructor know that the activities are running long. If your child works for 20-30 minutes for each class, they should be working on schoolwork for a total of 2.5-3.0 hours per day.

Chromebook Repairs/Needs

Does your child have a district-issued Chromebook or power adapter in need of repair?  If so, please complete the repair request form and we'll contact you to schedule a repair date. This form is also located on the “At-Home Learning Resources” on the CKSD website.

If you complete the form, you will receive an email communication with instructions on how to schedule a repair date and time. All repairs will be processed at the Teaching & Learning Center on Waaga Way and McWilliams Road. Families will remain in their vehicles and a technician will come out to assist.

CKSD Providing Meals

We are offering free meals to all children up to age 18 and students up to age 21 who receive special education services. Each meal will include breakfast for the next day. Meals are available for pick up from 11:00 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday, in the parent loop of Central Kitsap Middle School.

You are not required to pre-order to receive a meal. However, ordering can help us plan to provide the right amount of food at each location. Please complete the meal request form HERE  each day. The form will be open from 4 p.m. to 9 a.m.

Donation Opportunity

With the current financial situation in our community, we recognize that many families will struggle to pay off lunch account balances accrued when school was in session. In response, our Food Service Department has opened a method to collect donations to help families with lunch account debt. If you would like to donate funds to help eliminate student food service debt, please see below.

CKMS Athletics and Site Use

Please remember, it is our District’s expectation that we follow the State’s directive by not gathering in groups and by following the social distancing guidelines. We expect that families and community members will follow these guidelines by not participating in pick-up football or basketball, or any other “team” or group activities on CKMS or other CKSD facilities.

Thank you for your willingness to follow these guidelines and for finding ways to keep physically active while maintaining social distancing. We will provide more information as circumstances develop.

Building Closure

As of Monday, March 20 our office was closed until further notice. If you have a pressing need to get something at the building, please email scottmcd@ckschools.org, doylec@ckschools.org or mikip@ckschools.org for assistance.
